Marthel Slagle

Heaven gained another angel. Marthel Dorothea Slagle, 88, of Chillicothe passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at her home following a brief illness. She was born on August 16, 1929 in Kassel, Germany to the late Konrad and Anna K. (Schafer) Hoehre. Surviving are her five daughters, Kay (Clark) Jones of Chillicothe, Sue Dell (Buck) Landrum of Hagerstown, IN, Diana Buhring of Jackson, Cynthia (Kevin) Foy of Cincinnati, and Susan (Tim) Bowles of Port Charlotte, FL; her grandchildren, Blake (Kerry) Reiber of Highlands Ranch, CO, René (Kevin) Fager of Waxhaw, NC, Rod (Alisha) Jones of Trenton, IL, Kacy (John) Whitehead of Versailles, KY, Jack Buhring of Chillicothe, and Catheryn Bowles of Port Charlotte, FL; and her great-grandchildren, Megan and Taylor Reiber, Erika Fager, Riley, Macy, Reagan, and Luke Jones. Marthel was a long time member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Chillicothe where she enjoyed volunteering and participating in numerous church activities. In her spare time she loved gardening, baking, sewing, needlework, Christmas decorating, but most importantly she loved spending time with her family. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Calvary Lutheran Church, with Pastor Janet Hatch officiating. A private graveside service at Grandview Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Calvary Lutheran Church, 74 W. Main St., Chillicothe, Ohio 45601 or to the National Church Residences Hospice, 681 E. 3 rd St., Waverly, Ohio, 45690. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Marthel's caretakers with the National Church Residences Hospice group.
