Martha Smith

Martha M. Smith, 83, died at 8:45am Friday, May 30, 2014, in Westmoreland Place. She was born June 24, 1930, in Ross County to the late Weldon G. and Goldie M. (Thornburg) Markel. On July 6, 1956, she married Rev. Roy James Smith, who preceded her in death on May 3, 2011. Surviving are her sons Mark W. and Michael T. Smith, both of Chillicothe; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; former daughters-in-law Mae Smith and Donna Kitzmiller; her step-son's fiancée Vickie Smith; and many friends including Sandra Wright and Carol Allen. She was predeceased by a step-son and his wife Jimmy and Pat Smith; and brothers Melvin and Richard Markel. Mrs. Smith was a member of First United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, June 4, in Greenlawn Cemetery with Rev. Bill Mason officiating. At her request, calling hours will not be observed.
