Earl Mark Colley, 54, of Chillicothe, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, following an extended illness. He was born March 8, 1963, in Scioto County, to the late Earl and Constance Elaine (Fisher) Colley. On August 15, 1992, he married his high school best friend Sue Ann (Detty) Colley, who survives. Also surviving is his son and best friend, Nick Colley; two step-children, Lara Wheeler, and David Dearth, Jr.; his grandchildren, Grayden Danford and Acelynn Brown; his brother, Matt Colley; a sister-in-law, Kim (Danny) Oates; a niece, Danielle Oates and Elliott Barrows; a nephew, Mathew Oates and Jordan Paige Ray; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Janice and Clifford "Gene" Detty; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends throughout the community. In addition to his parents, Mark was preceded in death by his sister, Michele Colley, his sister-in-law, Virginia Colley, maternal grandparents, Charles (Stella) Fisher, paternal grandparents, John (Effie) Colley, his father-in-law, Larry L. Detty, and a nephew, Jeremy D. Clark. Mark was a graduate of Ohio University where he received his Bachelor's Plus in Education and a former graduate of Chillicothe City Schools. He was involved in the Chillicothe City Schools District both with substitute teaching and coaching. Most recently he was a Youth Specialist with the Circleville Juvenile Correctional facility. His passion in life was to not only coach but to mentor young students/athletes into becoming the best they could be, to set and achieve goals for their future He was a coach of many sports but the most concentrated areas were basketball, baseball, wrestling, and football for various organizations and school programs. He coached basketball at the YMCA. Baseball efforts include Chillicothe Middle School, Chillicothe Youth League, Kiwanis Pony League where he coached and concentrated his efforts to support the weekly Bingo Fundraiser to keep baseball free for all athletes. He was a former Wrestling Coach for Chillicothe Middle School and volunteered with the High School program when possible. Where football was concerned he coached in Scioto Valley Youth League for the Browns, Future Cavs, Chillicothe Middle School, and most recently assisted with breakfast on Saturday's at the field house for the high school. Other efforts included a Clubhouse Associate for the Ashville Tourists the Houston Astros Minor League team. His greatest achievement however, was getting to coach his son Nick throughout his sporting career. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the Haller Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Roger Webb officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00pm on Friday . In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his honor to the Haller Funeral Home and Crematory.
