Marilyn Jean Carver Rhoades went home to be with the Lord on December 12, 2010, while on a respite stay at Piketon Nursing Home. Marilyn turned 80 years old this past August 27. She was born in Chillicothe to the late Ercy and Frances Carver. Marilyn grew up in her beloved Chillicothe alongside her five siblings: Ercy Carver, Frances Murphey, Albert Carver, Margaret Wonderleigh, and Warren Carver. She graduated from Chillicothe High School, Class of 1948. Marilyn married Dusty E. Rhoades on October 19, 1952. They would go on to raise their four children in historic Chillicothe: Jane Rhoades Hudak and her husband Peter, of Crete, IL; Robin Robison and her husband Greg, Chillicothe; Carol Garman, Chino, CA; and Roy Eugene Rhoades and his wife Bessie Watson Rhoades, Acworth, GA; her beloved brother Warren Carver; four grandchildren: Lori Brofft of Colorado Springs, CO; Nathan and Artie Garman of Chino, CA; and Elizabeth Rhoades of Savannah, GA; one great-grandchild, Gage Robison of Chillicothe; and many nieces and nephews in her Carver-Wonderleigh-Murphey extended family. Marilyn's life was one of service, having served for many years as Sunday school teacher, missionary circle member, Brownie/Girl Scout Troop Leader, served on the state board for the Girl Scouts of America, PTA Co-President, Garden Club of America and was active in her local PEO organization. She loved her work as secretary to the teachers at Upper Arlington High School and during the 1970's she served as secretary to the principal in the Chillicothe School System. Marilyn also had a life-long love of gardening, especially her love of tomatoes. A memorial service will be held at 1:30pm Saturday, December 18, in Trinity United Methodist Church, 24 S. Mulberry St. with Pastor Kurt King officiating. Following the service, family and friends are encouraged to join them in the Friendship Hall for a meal and continued fellowship. Private burial will be held in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Kingston under the direction of Haller Funeral Home.
