Maria Seymour

April 17, 1947 — April 17, 2023

Maria V. Sanders Seymour, 76, of Chillicothe, died April 17, 2023 at the Adena Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness.

She was born January 29, 1947 in Charleston S. C.   to the late Frank W. and Ruth M. Merritt Sanders III.   Her family moved to Ohio when she was five.   She attended St. Mary Catholic School and graduated from Bishop Flaget High School in 1965.   She then entered Mt. Carmel School of Nursing, and graduated in 1968.   She was a member of St. Mary Church.

According to her husband, Kenneth E. Seymour Sr., she had a strong will and a sense of purpose.   She loved all aspects of nursing, where she worked in ICU, caring for open heart surgery patients.   She loved working in the ER, where she put patients first, and where she met the love of her life.   They were married for 42 years.   She also worked in mental health, where she was a big advocate for the mentally ill.   Once retired, she and her husband loved to travel, alone, and with friends.

Maria and Ken were married in their "fixer-upper" home, where the worked on the home, with love, to make it the haven they wanted.   Same house, same husband, and she was never finished with either.   Imagine that, with this day and age.   Ken says they were direct opposites, but somehow it worked.   They became soul mates with an unbelievably strong and loving relationship.

She loved her children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, and was fiercely protective of them.   Her children include David Lee Moody, Folly Beach, SC, Jonathan Scott (Jamie) Moody, Lebanon, and Kenneth Willard (Jody) Seymour, Circleville.   Her grandchildren are Victoria and Nathan Moody, Delaney and Ayden Moody, and Nicolas and Collin Seymour.   She is also survived by four siblings, E. Catherine Sanders, Port Charlotte, FL, Peggy Messervy, Charleston, SC, Frank W. Sanders III, Apollo Beach, FL and Robert Sanders, California.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory.   Burial will be in her family cemetery.   Friends may call 11:00-1:00 Tuesday at Haller's.   In lieu in flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in her honor to St. Mary Church, 61 S. Paint St., Chillicothe, OH 45601 or Doctors Without Borders at www.doctorswithoutborders.org .
