Margaret Highland

April 12, 1927 — February 12, 2014

Margaret Ann (Maggi) Highland, 86, of Chillicothe, died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 9:45pm, following a brief illness. Maggi was born on April 12, 1927 in Olney, Illinois, to the late Blanche Crosby. Margaret Ann is predeceased by her high school sweetheart and husband of 63 years, Walter H. Highland, Jr., who she married on January 29, 1949. She is survived by their three sons Stephen of Chillicothe, Pat (Jane) of Chillicothe, and Nicholas (Kathryn) of Woodinville, WA; lovingly known as Nana to her grandchildren Jay Highland, Matthew Highland, Brad (Jolea) Highland, Meghan Highland (Seth) O'Dell, and Julia Helget, and great-grandchildren Jack and Claire Highland, Lincoln Highland, and Emma O'Dell; her loving cousins Patria (Patti) Frey and James Armstrong along with many other relatives from Illinois; and brother-in-law John P. (Joann) Highland. Maggi was a friend to all, and her close relationships with friends Rosemary McHarg, Pat Moody, Georgia London, and Roger Jones were especially important to her. She was grateful for the expert care provided her by Dr. Emily Orimilikwe, and the team at the Da Vita Dialysis Unit. A graduate of Chillicothe's Catholic Central High School, Maggi was a dedicated homemaker and active member of the community. As a local retail entrepreneur, her home décor and craft shop Maggi's Alley Gallery thrived for over two decades. Her creativity and sense of style inspired friends and family alike—quilting, painting, sewing, and a love of music were among her many passions. Most importantly, Maggi's generosity of spirit, humor, and pride in her family are qualities that she passed onto everyone in her life. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 25, at 11:00 AM, Rev. Lawrence Hummer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Margaret's Cemetery, Chillicothe. Friends may call one hour prior to Mass at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary Catholic Church Restoration Fund, 61 South Paint St. Chillicothe, Ohio 45601, (740) 772-2061.
