Mae Markel

Mae L. Markel, 93, of Chillicothe, died 9:46 pm, December 6, 2009, at Heartland of Chillicothe, following an extended illness. She was born August 15, 1916 in Ross County. She was the daughter of Fred and Tessie Hertenstein. On September 17, 1949 she married Weldon Markel, who preceded her in death on February 18, 2001. Surviving are her children; sons, Ronald (Anita) Park and Gary (his friend Sharon Detty) Park; a daughter, Jerry (Arthur) Greene; her stepchildren, Martha (James) Smith, Richard (Jean) Markel, and Melvin (Beverly) Markel; her brother, Clyde E. (Alma "Billie") Hertenstein; and her sisters, Marilyn (Everett) Ervin and Janet (Roger) Boggess. Mae had many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great, great-grandchildren, including two special granddaughters, Melissa (John) Death and Cathy (Thomas) Imboden; and two special great-granddaughters, Ashley Dearth and Jessika Imboden. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Lloyd Hertenstein and her sisters, Hazel Smith, Bernice Coey and Mary Gumm. Mae retired from the US Shoe Corporation after 43 years of service. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Ross Co. Ladies Conservation League. She will be missed by many special friends who loved and adored her for the joy, love, and affection she brought to everyone. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Thursday at the Haller Funeral Home, Rev. Charles Case officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call 5-8 pm Wednesday at Haller's.
