Mishion Lavoo (Goff) Thomas M. Lavoo (Goff) Thomas, 94, of Chillicothe, left her worldly home and went to join loved ones and friends in heaven at Noon on August 5, 2008 after a long 12 year battle with Alzheimer's. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am, Saturday, August 9, in the Haller Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Norman and Rev. Dan Zickafoose officiating. Burial will follow in Browns Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 pm Friday at Haller's. Lavoo was born August 19, 1913, in Gilmore Co., WV, to the late John H. and Emma Davis Goff. On April 21, 1935, she married Walter P. Thomas, who preceded her in death in 1987. Surviving are her daughter Joylin "Jodi" Porter, of Chillicothe; grandchildren Earnestine Mishion (Jamie) Marshall; Terri (John) Campbell; Mishion (Richard) Payne, all of Chillicothe; and Nic (Elizabeth) Porter, Charleston, SC; great-grandchildren Marla Thomas, Tara Campbell, Annmarie Campbell; Dakota Payne; a great-great-grandchild Kagen Leasure; and a special nephew Marlin Goff, Windor, GA; and special caregivers from Adena Hospice: aid Jody Rose Lowe; and nurse Mark Mulholand. She was predeceased by sons Hayden Keith Thomas and Roger Neal Thomas; brothers Cho Goff and Clark Goff; and a sister Lona Mae (Goff) Scott. Lavoo was a graduate of Atlanta High School. She worked as a cafeteria manager for the Chillicothe Paper Company and later worked in the cafeteria for the Mead Paper Co. before retiring in 1973 after 20 years of service. She was a member of Brookside CCCU. Although she was not a member of a lot of organizations in her lifetime, she has touched many hearts as a Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, Junior Church leader and foster mother to many children. She never hesitated to work for any charity or organization, especially if it involved children. Her joys in life were her family, her church and singing in the church choir. If the church doors were open, Lavoo was there. Although she has been afflicted with Alzheimer's disease for 12 years, her sparkling blue eyes and gentle smile will truly be missed by all. Memorial contributions may be made to Adena Health Foundation, Friends of Hospice, 272 Hospital Rd., Chillicothe; or the Brookside Church, 2215 Egypt Pike, Chillicothe, OH 45601.
