Dr. Lynn A. Simon, 85, of Athens, OH, died 4:48 pm, Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at The Lindley Inn, following an extended illness. She was born August 19, 1933 in Chillicothe, OH to the late Albert J. and Eleanor W. Damron Simon. Survivors include three sisters, Sharon S. Dykes, DeBary, FL, Martha E. (Nikolaus) Wenzel, Chillicothe, and Joy E. Carver, Chillicothe; her best-friend and lifelong housemate, Marilyn L. Clark, of Athens; six nieces and nephews, Michelle (Vince) Willis, Thomas (Sharon) Dykes, Felicia (Albert) Vonderheide, Heather Bradley, Laurel (Eric) Lenox and Joshua (Candice) Carver; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Tom Dykes and Dennie Carver. Dr. Simon was a graduate of, and obtained her master's degree from Ohio University. She received her doctorate degree from Indiana University. She was a professor at Case Western Reserve and later at Ohio University. She started the Ohio University women's volleyball and women's synchronized swim teams. She was a member of several education based organizations. She enjoyed spending time at her summer home, located at Horsehead Lake, Mecosta, MI, listening to the loons. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Christ the King Church, Athens, OH. The family will receive friends immediately following the Mass in the Parish Hall. Calling hours will not be observed. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Margaret Cemetery, Chillicothe.
