Lucille Nichols, of Chillicothe, OH passed away in Chillicothe on June 9, 2021 at the age of 105.
She was born June 3, 1916 in Independence, Iowa to Lura Mae and Frank J. Selzer. She was married to Frank W. Nichols of Chillicothe on June 3, 1941 and after 47 years of marriage he predeceased her on December 1, 1988. Lucille was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, and member of St. Mary Church in Chillicothe. Throughout her lifetime she travelled to all 50 US states, with Alaska and Hawaii being highlights in her later years as well as kayaking in the San Francisco Bay at age 96! As a young adult she enjoyed competing in basketball games, and her competitive and determined mindset has carried her to the very end. As a young child she remembers that she and her sisters were asked to wash down the interior walls of the house. Her "payment" of three lemons, which she loved to eat, contributed to her nickname "lemon". Her infectious laugh will be remembered by all!
Lucille was a registered nurse at the Chillicothe VA Hospital for over 20 years, having known she wanted to be a nurse from the age of 5. For 50 years she served as a member of the Columbus Diocese Council of Catholic Women during which she held many offices including Diocesan President from 1978-80. She was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary Church and was involved with prison ministry at local Chillicothe prisons for 30+ years. Lucille was a member and officer of the Daughters of Isabella #583 for 50+ years.
Surviving Lucille is her daughter, Mary Kathryn (Nichols) Eltzroth and husband Thomas of San Luis Obispo, CA; granddaughter Jennifer (Eltzroth) Klopfer and husband Kyle along with two great grandsons Curtis Klopfer and Luke Klopfer of Mill Valley, CA; grandson Brian Nichols of Chillicothe; sisters Josephine Astel of Pevely, MO and Kay Barrow of Columbus, OH; and many nieces and nephews and those that called her "mom". In addition to her parents and husband, Lucille was predeceased by her son William "Bill" Edward Nichols; brothers Lawrence, John (Florence), and Robert (Harriet); sisters Francis (Samuel) Talbert and Helen (George) Wheeler; sisters-in-law Kay (Marvin) Davis, Mabel (Richard) Early, Martha (Frank) Miller, Lucille (Bill) Genter, Lorena (Kenneth) Miller, Margaret (Paul) Gard; brothers-in-law Samuel Jr. (Goldie), Donald (Babe), and Edward (Kay) Barrow.
