Loy D. Oberer
It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Loy D. Oberer, age 72, on Monday February 3, 2025 after a brief illness.
He was born December 16, 1952 in Chillicothe to the late Paul(Bud) and Pauline Oberer. On May 13, 1972 he married the former Brenda Seymour who is very honored, blessed and grateful to have had him by her side for over 52 years as her soulmate. Together they shared 3 children, Amy, Chasta and Bridget; 9 grandchildren, Isaac, Corbin, Keegan, Faith, Kevin, Wyatt, Willow, Clint and Evie; 3 great grandchildren, Liam, Peyton and Easton(arriving soon).
Also surviving are 3 sisters, Sharon (Tony) Neff, twin sister Joy (Javier) Velasquez and Kim (Steve) Rittenhouse and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Wayne Daily, Paul(Buddy) Oberer, Tony Oberer; nephews, David and Craig Daily and 1 niece, Dawn.
After high school graduation, Loy went through a 4 year electrical apprenticeship and worked in the industry for 50 years. He worked for S.O.S. Electric as an estimator and was a member of I.B.E.W. for 50 years and enjoyed meeting up at The Dock for lunch occasionally and catching up with all the Local group.
After retirement, Loy enjoyed many hobbies including traveling, his dream that he finished a Retro modification job on his G & A 1955 Ford F-100 pickup earning many trophies for his meticulous work was rewarding, but one of his greatest joys was hanging out at car shows with friends and meeting people along with his special longtime friend, Jim Hice. Being athletic, Loy also became an avid swimmer after battling heart disease and won a gold and bronze medal in back stroke in the Ohio Senior Olympics in 2024.
Loy, simply put, was a treasure to know and be around. He was a prankster and will be fondly remembered for all his antics by many who experienced them. He was a wonderful storyteller, loved God, his Country, enjoyed people, treasured his family and would gladly help anyone. He became a Boy Scout Leader, which he loved and mentored his grandson, Isaac through to Eagle Scout and coached Soccer, Pee Wee and Junior High basketball.
Moving forward there will be many events honoring his beautiful memory and respecting his wishes.
