She fought hard and never gave up. Lorain had such strength and dignity throughout her short battle against this aggressive disease. Private graveside services will be held in St. Margaret Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Hall Bonner and Waitman Drake in Elkview, WV, where she was a member of Elkview Baptist Church, having been baptized there in 1947. She relocated to Ohio in 1954, where she remained throughout her adult life. Lorain married Floyd E. Dyke, who survives, and together they shared a joyful and devoted 54 years. In December 1978 she lost her beloved daughter, Carlla Yvonne Harper-Hayes, in a tragic auto accident. Also left to mourn are a step-son, Gary (Becky) Dyke; stepdaughter Carolyn (Gene) Bryan; sisters, Rose Cobb Reding, of Lake Wylie, SC and Shirley Bonner Elliott Nichols, of Chillicothe, who Lorain raised as her own for many years, sharing a wonderful sisterly love; grand nieces and nephews; and a much loved bichonfrise, Angel (doggy), her companion of 7 years. Lorain owned and operated Lorain's Beauty Shop for 25 years. She was a member of Chillicothe Eagles Aerie 600, where she held office as Past Madam President, and a state office seat. During her courageous battle, Lorain shared a wonderful friendship with Sister Mary and Sister Michael of Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, of Clarksburg, OH. Special caregivers throughout her illness were her sister, Shirley Nichols and a very special niece, Michelle Branscom, who was by her side, holding her hand as she passed so peacefully to be with the Lord.
