Lois J. Maughmer, 82, of Columbus, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, December 1, 2024 at her home.
She was born May 28, 1942, in Chillicothe, Ohio, daughter of the late Lee C. and Helen I. (Cooper) Giles. She married Toby L. Maughmer, who preceded her in death in February 2004.
Surviving is their son, Tab L. Maughmer; her grandchildren, Octavia Cox, Mike Forney, Tia Maughmer and Tyra Maughmer; great-grandchildren, Danielle and Dionne Pollard and Tristan Cox; her sister, Carol J. Liggins; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and former spouse, she was preceded in death by her brother, James L. Giles.
Lois joined the United States Army Reserves in December 1974, where she honorably served for the next 22 years before retiring in September 1996. During that time, she studied at the Ohio State University, receiving both her Bachelors Degree in 1980, and her Masters Degree in 1982. Following her studies, she began working as a teacher for the Columbus Public School District and retired in 2005.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation services will take place. A military graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, December 14, 2024 in Greenlawn Cemetery.
