Lois Bernard

July 23, 1923 — February 3, 2018

Lois Lillian Lloyd Bernard, born July 23, 1923, Ross County, Ohio; she departed mortality February 03, 2018, was the eighth daughter of John Franklin and Sarah Jane "Jenny" Mace Lloyd and number eleven in a family of thirteen children. Lois was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Lois graduated Kingston High School 1939. She then graduated from Mount Carmel School of Nursing, Columbus, OH, 1944. She was in the Nurse Cadet program during WWII. Industrial nursing at the American Glass Co. and the Mead Paper Corp were some of her first assignments. After many years in the Mead she retired, moved to Arizona, worked in the Arizona Tuberculous Sanitarium (Tempe) until it closed; in Phoenix with special needs youngsters caring for them in their cottages and other facilities on their campus. She worked at the Hotel Dieu (now demolished), El Paso, TX, as a staff nurse after a short move to TX-NM area 1962-63. In 1987 Lois and Joe retired to Chillicothe. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jenny; brothers Jesse (Dorothy), Silas, Robert (Virginia) and Edward (Jane); sisters Beatrice (Alfred Gartner, Dave Schreiber), Francis (Ernie Kempton), Kathryn (Don Freidli), Sarah Jane ( Higley), Mildred, Mary (LeRoy Shoemaker), Helen (Martin Hall); nephews James and Robert Gartner, and Jay Shoemaker. Her husband, Joseph E. Bernard, his daughter Kathleen Stringer, and son, Edward preceded her as did former husband, Robert L. Murry. Lois is survived by one brother, James Gordon (Kathleen), sister-in-law, Jane; her daughter, Susan Murry Noel (Kenneth), and step-children, Sandi Nelson, Mary Christensen (Dave), and Joseph E. Jr. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren are her legacy. Many nieces and nephews survive, too. Lois loved gardening flowers and vegetables. She spent many years judging flowers in the Ross County Fair. Two gardening clubs added her to their membership in (Garden Club of America, Inc.) Jackson and (Liberty Garden Club) Chillicothe. She expressed great affection for the students of Pioneer school. Viewing in Haller Funeral Home, will be 10:30 a.m. - 12:30, Friday, February 9. At 1 p.m. interment will be in the Springbank Cemetery, Yellowbud, OH, Lloyd family area, including a brief graveside service. Services will also held in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 237 Carriage Drive HARPERS FERRY, West Virginia, 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 7.
