Lloyd G. VanVliet, 86, of Chillicothe, died at 11:36am Sunday, September 7, 2014, at the Ohio State University Medical Center after suffering a stroke. He was born December 30, 1927, in Staten Island, NY, to the late Lloyd and Helen (DeGrout) VanVliet. On March 31, 1979, he married the former Ruth Robinson Gardner, who survives. Also surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law Lisa (Steve) Coppel; Jennifer (Jack) Gordon, all of Chillicothe; step-daughter Lynn Reese, of Chillicothe; step-sons Stephen Gardner, Columbus; and Gregg (Becky) Gardner, Chillicothe; 6 grandchildren; and a brother James VanVliet, of Bethlehem, PA. He was predeceased by his sister Nancy and his parents. Lloyd retired in 1992 from Wear-Ever/Proctor-Silex as a Sales Administrator. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Rutgers University and served his country in the US Navy during WWII. He was an avid and excellent bridge player. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Grandview Cemetery under the direction of Haller Funeral Home. Calling hours will not be observed. www.lls.org
