Lloyd Davis

July 3, 1948 — August 12, 2015

On the morning of August 12th, 2015, the world became a sadder, darker, and poorer place. Lloyd Martin Davis Jr. has passed from this world. Born on July 3rd, 1948, Lloyd shared the extraordinary love, compassion, and kindness by which everyone he met knew him for 67 years. He was a devoted son and loving brother. Above all, Lloyd was hero, protector, father, and best friend to his children. The world is a better place for having had him in it. Lloyd was passionate about sports and distinguished himself as an athlete. He ran track, played basketball, and played the French horn in the marching band. He was part of the very first football team at Unioto High School. Lloyd played on the 1965 All-Ohio Team and was named 1965 SVC Lineman of the Year. He attended Marietta College on a football scholarship. He was a fervent Buckeyes fan and cheered them on to their 2014 National championship using the power of the "woo-woo." Lloyd's true passion though, was being a father and grandfather. He was always quick with a hug, a kiss, or an "I love you." He wowed his children with the stories he made up and maps he drew them of far-off lands and adventures. He loved to laugh and play pranks. There was always a song in his heart and he would write and sing songs for his kids. As they grew, he was their number one supporter and champion. Through his example, he taught his children to be strong, courageous, brave, kind, and generous to a fault. He taught them to love and to love fiercely. He was a beloved grandfather, babysitter, "Grant," and friend to his grandchildren. Lloyd lived on his own terms and left on his own terms. Recognizing that he was fighting a losing battle, he chose to enter hospice care and to enjoy the time he had left with his family, filling as much of it as possible with laughter. He was exceptionally brave. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Marguerite, his brother Richard, who died in infancy, and his brother Kenneth, who remained close until his passing. He is survived by his siblings Betty Dean, Jack Davis, Phyllis Garrison, Margie Goldsberry, Larry Davis, Robert Davis, and Mike Davis. As Lloyd makes his way home to the Lord, he leaves behind and will be dearly missed by his children and their families: son Lloyd, his wife Stacy, and children, Gabe and Andrew; son Aaron, his wife Jaime, and children, Milo, Chadd, and Alexa; son Chadd and his wife Shawna; daughter Maggie, her husband Ryan, and children, Micah and Lucy; daughter Betti, her husband Chris, and children, Jackson and Addison; son Todd, his wife Joelle, and son Orion. Lloyd also leaves behind his former wife, Melanie and her husband, Ronald Boring, whom he counted among his dearest friends. One-of-a-kind and fun-loving in death as he was in life, Lloyd has requested that there be a party rather than a funeral. In addition to celebrating his life every day, Lloyd's family will be holding a private celebration in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, Lloyd's family requests that donations be sent in his name to Adena Hospice, who provided him the most loving and compassionate care. Donations may be addressed to Hospice of Adena Health System, 2077 Western Avenue, Chillicothe, OH 45601.
