Linda Susan Alexander

January 22, 1950 — June 13, 2026

Waverly

Linda Alexander passed away June 13, 2026, at Bristol Village in Waverly, Ohio.

Born January 22, 1950, in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, to Guy and Rita (Shipe) Bierbower. In 1953, the family moved to Waverly, Ohio. Linda graduated from Waverly High School where she played volleyball and was in the band. From an early age, she was shaped by her father’s strong work ethic, which informed how she lived her life and her commitment to those she loved and supported. Linda worked her way through college and proudly earned her degree in English and Education from Ohio University, remaining a devoted Bobcat in the decades that followed.

Linda taught for 27 years at Huntington High School in Ross County, where she inspired generations of students through her love of literature, language, and learning. She was known for high expectations and challenging classes, but also for the connections she made with her students. Anytime Linda walked into a local restaurant or store, she encountered one of her students who was excited to help her. As her students grew into adulthood, she enjoyed hearing about their accomplishments and families. Many returned years later to thank her, and they continued to invite her to their class reunions where her presence was valued. Linda found a second family in her co-workers, and their shenanigans were legendary.

Linda valued words. She was an avid reader and a gifted writer, capable of striking the perfect tone. Her love of books and lifelong connection to Ohio University became a part of her legacy, passed down to her daughter, Jenn Wiswell.

Linda met the love of her life, Charlie Alexander, while teaching at Huntington, where Charlie was serving as president of the alumni board, and they married on December 27, 1987. Their life together was filled with adventures, especially to the place Linda loved most: the water. Water was a constant throughout Linda’s life. From lifeguarding at Lake White, to afternoons at the Swim Club, to the villa in Myrtle Beach and vacations in Jamaica, the water remained her home. For years, Linda and Charlie shared beach life with their community in Myrtle Beach and her incredibly and appropriately spoiled dog, Buddy.

Linda thrived as a grandmother. She loved being present for her grandchildren and could often be found on a ball field or in an auditorium celebrating their achievements and capturing every moment with her ever-present camera.

Linda is survived by her husband, Charlie Alexander; her daughter, Jenn Wiswell (Geoff); her stepdaughter, Penny Lamb (Steve Rood); and her beloved grandchildren, Emily Rossi (Tony), Erin Lamb, Elle Hunt (Josh), Nathaniel Lamb, Beckett Wiswell, and Sullivan Wiswell.

The family thanks the team at Bristol Village for all of their support of and love for Linda.
