Lieutenant Colonel Michael D Snyder

Michael D. Snyder, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on September 22, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on August 16, 1951, in Cherry Point, North Carolina, he was one of four children to Wellington C. Snyder and Helen M. Morehouse (Snyder) of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Mike graduated from Wapakoneta High School in 1970 and immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served proudly in both Vietnam and the Gulf War. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and distinguished himself as a jump master and dive master, earning the Meritorious Service Medal for his dedicated service.
While in the military, Mike attended college, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio State University and a Master of Arts from Pepperdine University. He was not only a committed Marine but also a leader and mentor to many; his guidance and support inspired those around him, and everyone always wanted to shake his hand.
In 1972, he met the love of his life on a blind date, and they married on May 28, 1975. In the summer of 1983, Mike and his family moved to Florida, where he worked for the City of Fort Lauderdale for 20 years. He retired from the Marine Corps on April 1, 2005, shortly after retiring from the city.
After a lifetime of service, Mike returned to Ohio, where he cherished spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Snyder, two sons, Zachary Snyder and Sam (Kelli) Snyder, three stepsons, Richard (Edith) Napier, Darren Napier, and Trevor (Amie) Napier, four cherished grandchildren, and seven step-grandchildren, one step great-grandson, his sister, Carla Miller, and numerous extended family members. Mike's kindness, strength, and devotion will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In honor of Mike's legacy, a funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 12
th
, 2024, at 12:00pm at the Open Door Church, 3130 S. Bridge Street, Chillicothe. Visitation will be held at Open Door Church from 10:00am to 12:00pm. A private family burial will occur at Walnut Hills Cemetery.
Michael D. Snyder will be remembered not only for his military accomplishments but also for his unwavering love and support for his family and friends. His spirit and dedication to helping others will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
