Lawrence “Larry” Cyrus, 76, passed away peacefully Sunday night at 10:30pm at Embassy of Valley View, where he had been a resident for the last several years.

“Bub” was born on July 28, 1949 in Vinton County, son of the late Elza and Sarah (White) Cyrus. He attended Allensville School and was in the first graduating class of the Vinton County Consolidated High School in 1967. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving on the USS Coronado during the Vietnam Conflict, and received several medals of honor. He later went on to work in retail management before settling at the Heinz factory where he retired while living in Bolivar, Ohio. Larry enjoyed listening to southern gospel music and attending concerts. He sang in several quartet groups and as a soloist.

Surviving are his family, Brock (Ashley) Bircher, their children, Blake and Bixley; and Diamond Lanham; brother, Lloyd (Barb) Cyrus; sisters, Ivella Cyrus, Lois (Bob) Scott, Kay Long, and Charlotte Shoults; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Preceding him in death was a brother, Alvin Cyrus, and two brothers-in-law, Rick Long and Steve Shoults.

Military graveside honors conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Ray, Ohio at 2:00pm on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, with Pastor Chuck Elliott officiating.
