Lawrence W. Brown, 69, went to be with the Lord on August 28, 2009 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born on January 26, 1940 in Chillicothe to Lawrence D. and Beatrice C. Davis Brown. On November 23, 1959 he married Rosemary A. Menefee, his loving wife of 49 years, who survives. Also surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Felecia (Brad) Valentine and Heather (Devin) Cousins, of Chillicothe, Justine (Dwayne) Smith, of Frankfort, and Ranatha "Janie" Thomas, of Portsmouth; grandchildren, Ashton, Alexis, Mickala, Madison, Noah, Kennedy, Lawrence and Hunter; a sister, Bertha Adams, of Florida; a sister-in-law, Anne Menefee; a brother-in-law, Jan (Delores) Menefee; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, David Carnes, Donald McGee, and Sonny Allen. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and Raymond. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He retired from the City of Chillicothe and the Ross Correctional Institute. He served on many boards including the Chillicothe Metropolitan Housing, Ross Chamber of Commerce and Friends of the Library. He was active with Ross Co. Fair Housing and the AFSCME Retirees. He was an elected Democratic Central Committee Chairperson and President of Lawrence W. Brown Enterprises, Inc. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 am Wednesday in St. Mary Catholic Church, Rev. Lawrence Hummer, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Calling hours will not be observed. In lieu of a funeral reception, cards with condolences and memories may be sent to Rosemary Brown, 105 Whaley Place, Chillicothe. Lawrence was a kind and gentle man. He was a loving husband and an exceptional father to his children. He achieved great things with humble beginnings. He will truly be missed.
