Laura Ann Butt was born on August 17, 1956 in Portsmouth, Ohio to Friend (Nick) Butt and Pauline Butt Doyle Spriggs.
She is survived by siblings Susan Porter (Tom) of Oceanside, CA, Jimmy Butt of Chillicothe, Teresa Butt of Cincinnati, Joe Butt (Julie) of Cincinnati, and John Doyle (Eric Cherry) of Washington DC. She absolutely adored all of her nieces and nephews. They include nephews Shad Park (Amy) and Doug Porter (Emily), nieces Michaela Butt, Savanah Macielewicz (Matt), and Jorja Butt as well as great nephew William Park. Laura was very close with her Aunts Mo, Janet and Susie, all of Portsmouth, Ohio. She also had a vast village of lifelong friends who were bonus family members, including Patty, Peggy, Tina, Brenda, Teresa R., Jeff, Betty and so many more loved ones from the community and workplace (she said you all know who you are!!). Laura was preceded in death by both parents and nephew Bryant Butt.
Laura took great pride in saying that she was a very proud member of "THE best class ever" to graduate from Bishop Flaget High School in 1974. She received both her associate and bachelor's degrees from Ohio University with a major in Health and Human Services. Laura worked for 10 years at Mechanical Construction as well as the Chillicothe Country Club and YMCA where she loved being both a lifeguard and swim coach for the Chillicothe Marlins. She then went on to spend the majority of her professional career working for Ross County Child and Family Services. Before retiring in July 2019, Laura served as an Investigator for over 30 years. Her whole goal was to help children and families lead better lives.
Laura was passionate about her sports teams and could be found every weekend cheering on her Buckeyes, Bengals and Reds. She loved to travel extensively to the various Caribbean Islands where she received her scuba diving certification (as her beloved Jimmy Buffett would say "Fins Up"). In addition, as a reward for graduating high school, she took each niece on a European vacation.
The family wishes to thank the exhaustive list of friends who held her up and have been there for her, especially in the past few years. She definitely felt and appreciated your grace, love and support!
Laura's final prayer is that those who crossed her path are better people for having known her.
