Larry Roger Cox, beloved husband and best friend of Joy Evelyn McNeal Cox whom he married on June 27, 1959 at Tabernacle Baptist Church passed from this life to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, May 16th, 2014 at Pleasant Hill Manor in Piketon after an extended battle with cancer. Larry was born May 17, 1939 in Chillicothe to the late Carl and Opal (Davis) Cox, the eldest of seven children. He was a 1958 graduate of Huntington High School. Surviving is a daughter, Velvet (Scott) O'Day of Orient, Teresa Cox, daughter-in-law of Chillicothe. Grandchildren are Kelsey O'Day and Jacob O'Day of Orient and Evan (Sarah) Cox of Circleville. He is predeceased by son Officer Larry Randolph Cox. Also surviving are brother Alan Cox, Dick (Vicki) Cox, Ronnie (Carol) Cox and Randy (Pam) Cox all of Chillicothe, Darrell (Diana) Cox of Beavercreek, sister Diane (Stan) Harrington of Waverly and Lee Ann Butcher, sister-in-law of Grove City and many special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by Edgar and Dorothy McNeal, Father-in-law and mother-in-law, Janet Cox sister-in-law of Chillicothe, Brian Cox nephew of Beavercreek and Bernard Butcher, brother-in-law of Grove City and Dwayne, nephew of Grove City, OH. Larry was baptized and is a longtime member of Tabernacle Baptist Church since 1961. He was a member of The Disciples Sunday School Class of Tabernacle Baptist Church since 1960. He worked for Chilpaco Paper Mill from 1958 until his retirement in February 1996. He was a member of various clubs including The Chillicothe Evening Lions Club, Vintage Car Club of America, The First Capital Chevy Club, Phoenix Fire, The Mead Retirees Club and The Ross County Senior Citizens Center and a former Igniter's member. He was also a regular member of the Bridge Street McDonald's coffee club where he chatted with close friends Darrel Massie, Whitey (Richard) Graves and Homer Notestone. Larry's passions included honoring special holidays by raising flags in the community, attending the annual Larry Cox Memorial Turkey Trot, attending many cruise-ins and car shows from coast to coast, including Good Guys in Columbus, Ohio and Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky. He enjoyed looking for car parts for his friends, working on cars, making apple butter and raising tomatoes. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am, Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, with Rev. Steve Schmidt and Rev. Andrew Shearer officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Chillicothe. Friends may call 4-8 Tuesday at the HALLER FUNERAL HOME.
