Larry Austin

February 19, 1940 — April 9, 2008

Larry C. Austin, 68, of Chillicothe, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed into the arms of Jesus at 5:02pm on April 9, 2008, in Adena Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Monday, April 14, at the First Baptist Church, 71 W. Fourth St., with Rev. Steve Ragland officiating. Military graveside services conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call Sunday from 5-7pm at First Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Haller Funeral Home. Larry was born February 19, 1940, in Chillicothe to the late Joseph and Iva Johnson Austin. On November 12, 1958, he married the former Wilmetta E. Cunningham, who survives. Also surviving are their children Eric (Toni) Austin, Chillicothe; Tracy (Karen) Austin, Powell, OH; Denise (Mark) Lisath, New Albany, OH; Monica (Timothy) Abrams, Dayton, OH; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; his father-in-law William Cunningham, Chillicothe; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and many special friends. He was predeceased by brothers Robert Ryan, Joseph Austin, Jr., Christopher Austin, Gordon Austin, Paul "Richie" Austin, and Theodore Austin; sisters Lillian Ryan Manis, Susan Ryan, Virginia West, Ruth Cousins, and Eugenia Austin; and his mother-in-law Mae Catherine Cunningham. Larry retired from Kenworth Truck Co. where he was a Paint Supervisor. He was an active member of Floral Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and taught Sunday school. He was a Past-President of the Ross Co. NAACP and was a veteran of the US Army. The family is most appreciative for the many calls and visits from devoted friends and family that they received.
