Larry Alflen

Larry L. Alflen, 76, of Chillicothe, died 11:40 am, Saturday, September 9, 2023 at his residence, following an extended illness.

He was born August 7, 1947 in Elyria, OH to the late Edwin and Dorothy Thompson Alflen.  On August 22, 1997 he married the love of his life, Rebecca E. Ellifritt Alflen, who survives.  Also surviving are two children, Cameo (James) Stoops and Christopher (Angie) Alflen, all of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Allyssa and Cameron Stoops, Caleb Reynolds, and Clayton and Aaliyah Alflen; sisters, Julia Gail Alflen and Emily Baker, of Chillicothe; nieces and nephews, Dustin Baker, Holly Dailey, and Paul Ellifritt; great-nieces and nephews, Rory and Theo Daily; mother-in-law, June Ellifritt; brother-in-law, Scott (Lanie) Ellifritt; and his fury companions, whom he dearly loved, Sauron, Matrix, Guage, Reebok, Boo, Jinx and Maggie.  He was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Donald and Rick Ellifritt; his father-in-law, Ira Ellifritt, and two special friends, Jack Riley Sr. and Jack Woodruff.

Larry was drafted at age 18 by the Cincinnati Reds, however, he became a US Army Vietnam War veteran instead.  He was a lifetime member of AMVETS Post 4, a member of the American Legion Post 62, VFW Post 108, Moose Lodge 1626, and Eagles Aerie 600.  He was an avid OSU, Kentucky Wildcats, and NY Yankees fan.  He truly loved the game of golf and enjoyed playing and watching golf on television.

The family would like to thank Promedica Hospice, especially Maria and Courtney for their care.

Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, September 16, 2023 in St. Margaret Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and hold a celebration of Larry's life at the AMVETS immediately following the graveside service.  Please bring a side dish to share.  At Larry's request, you are invited to wear your favorite OSU outfit or your favorite team's outfit.  Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, at www.dav.org or the Ross Co. Humane Society, 2708 A Lick Run Rd., Chillicothe, OH 45601.
