Kenneth Newton

April 28, 1951 — December 6, 2024

Kenneth Franklin Newton, Jr., 73, of Chillicothe, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024, surrounded by the family he cherished. Ken lived a life marked by dedication, service, and boundless love for those around him.

Born on April 28, 1951, to Kenneth and Esther Newton, who preceded him in death, he grew up in Chillicothe and graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1969. A bright and determined student, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology from Russ College of Engineering in 1973. He continued his education by taking courses toward a Master's in Business Administration at Capital University, showcasing his lifelong commitment to learning.

Ken retired from the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant after a distinguished career, rising through positions from buyer to director of procurement. His professional accomplishments were paralleled by his selfless contributions to the community.

Ken's love for coaching and youth sports was evident in his years as a Scioto Valley youth baseball coach, YMCA youth soccer coach, and founder of Chillicothe's city girls' softball league. He also served as Bishop Flaget Middle School's soccer coach, touching countless young lives with his guidance and encouragement. Beyond sports, Ken gave his heart to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, helping grant nearly 50 wishes for children facing life-threatening illnesses – a testament to his compassion and desire to bring joy to others.

A man of deep faith, Ken served on St. Peter's Parish Council and Bishop Flaget School Board, reflecting his dedication to his church and its mission. He had a zest for life that extended to his hobbies. He was an avid golfer, a licensed pilot who co-owned a private airplane, and a lifelong lover of music. In his teenage years, he played keyboard for the Wegians, a 60's rock and roll band – a passion he revisited in his 60s with great joy. A devoted Ohio State football fan, Ken rarely missed cheering on his Buckeyes. In their retirement years, Ken and Patty found great joy in traveling the country together, creating countless memories and experiencing life's beauty hand in hand.

Above all, Ken was a family man. He was the beloved husband of Patricia Newton, a devoted father to his late son Brian Newton and his daughter Brooke Maranzana and a cherished father-in-law to Alex Maranzana. He adored his grandchildren, Gabriella and Brian Maranzana, who brought him endless pride and happiness. Ken is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rita and Mike Dougherty, as well as their children, Sean Dougherty and his wife Maureen; Kevin Dougherty and his wife Maureen; and their children. Additionally, he leaves behind a special cousin, Helen Beutler, who held a cherished place in his heart.

Ken's warm heart, vibrant spirit, and unwavering dedication to others leave an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. His memory will live on in the lives he touched, the family he loved, and the community he served.
