Kathleen Netter

November 9, 1925 — July 18, 2013

Kathleen Louise Netter, 87, of Chillicothe, went to be with the Lord on July 18, 2013, at her residence following an extended battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born November 9, 1925, in Chillicothe, to the late Wetus, Sr. and Celetty Smith Netter. She was the second oldest child. She leaves to mourn her brother Wetus "King" Netter, Chillicothe. She was predeceased by her parents, a sister Audrey Poindexter; and a brother Arthur Netter, all of Chillicothe. Kathleen was a graduate of West Virginia State College where she obtained her BA Degree. She also attended Ohio State University in Columbus. She taught school at Charles Houston Elementary in Alexandria, VA for nine years. Upon her return to Chillicothe, she taught fifth grade at Western Elementary School until it closed and then taught at Allen Elementary until her retirement. After retiring, she substituted for approximately 10 more years. She said she realized the importance of good substitutes for the children. All told, she taught for almost 40 years. Kathleen received many awards during her lifetime. She was recognized as one of the first Black teachers originally from Chillicothe to teach in her hometown. She was recognized and awarded certificates from the NAACP and the Board of Education. Kathleen was a member of the Original Glorious Church of God in Christ where she held many offices during her time. She was the Church Mother, former Sunday school teacher, church musician, choir director, young people's president and she also held the office as the Ohio State Young People's President for the organization. She was an example for young people and a counselor to those in the church, old and young alike. Kathleen was known to everyone as "Aunt Kat." She had several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, many cousins, friends and her loving church family and friends. Funeral services will held at 11:00am Tuesday, July 23, at the Original Glorious Church of God in Christ with Bishop Melvin Maughmer officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 6-8pm at Haller Funeral Home.
