Julia Kay (McGraw) Snyder, 77, of Frankfort, Ohio, stepped into the arms of her heavenly father on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 5:23 pm, after a hard fought battle with Alzhemer's disease and related complications.
Kay was born on June 24, 1948, in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Jake McGraw and Delia (Shover) McGraw.
On July 5, 1965, she married the love of her life, Joner Ray Snyder, aka "the boy down the road". Kay and Ray had been married for 41 years when Ray passed away on October 26, 2006.
Kay was born into a large family, having had 14 siblings. Of those 14, she was preceded in death by 13 of them. Five brothers: Jake McGraw Jr. Bill McGraw, Alf McGraw, Lee McGraw, and Harry McGraw; 8 sisters: Josephine Blaine, Mae Burke, Georgie Snyder, Louella Coyle, Brenda Jones, Connie Bise, Sharon McGraw, and a baby girl McGraw. Kay has one surviving sister, Carol Cummings, of Portsmouth, Ohio.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Jean Snyder, and one great grandchild, Zoya Snyder.
Kay is survived by a wealth of family and friends. She leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Mary Snyder of Aiken, SC, and her daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Todd Morris, of Chillicothe. Also surviving are her 4 grandchildren, whom she loved dearly: Joshua Snyder, Timothy (Mission) Snyder, and Christine (Adam Chambers) Snyder, all of Summerville, SC, and Jessica "Nikki" (Tim Woolever) of Frankfort, Ohio. Kay also has 3 step grandsons, whom she held special bonds with: David Christian of Greenville, SC, Matt Moore, of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Jimmy Jones, of Greendale, IN. She was the proud great-grandmother of 5: Michael and Christopher Sulsar, Thomas Chambers, Zaphira and Elora Snyder. She is also survived by several other bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her very dear and special friend, Debbie Frost, who was like another daughter, and a true blessing to Kay and her family. There is a host of extended family and friends left to carry on Kay's legacy.
Kay was a member of Bible Baptist Church, (formerly Liberty Baptist) in Chillicothe, where she took much pride in keeping the flower beds looking fantastic. Her true passion was in children's ministry. She loved all the kids. She thoroughly enjoyed working in the nursery during Sunday School and teaching the youngest kids the Bible stories and songs. She was also a dedicated volunteer for Junior Church camp and Vacation Bible School.
She knew no strangers, especially if kids were involved. Often, while out to eat with family and friends, she would disappear from the table. When she was located, she would be at someone else's table who had children, telling them about the Lord and inviting them to church.
It was just plain to see that everyone who knew her, loved her,
Kay was called by many names. Her daughter caller her "Mother." Her son called her "Ma." The grandkids called her "Mamaw," except at church, she was known as "Miss Kay." She had many other names too: sister, aunt, cousin, friend, the list goes on and on. But one thing is for certain, to everyone who knew her, she was called "A Blessing!"
The family would like to give special recognition and thanks to Kay's granddaughter, Nikki, who moved in with her grandmother, and spent the last several months being her caregiver. Even when it is a family member, it is not an easy task, and Nikki did an amazing job making sure Kay was wellcared for.
Also, a thank you to Adena Hospice and all of their staff for everything they did to help the family in the time of need.
