Julia Pierson

September 24, 1927 — February 21, 2022

Julia May Oliver Pierson was born September 24, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio the daughter of Edith Leferenz Oliver and Lon J. Oliver. On February 3, 1951 she married Philip Cebron Pierson, who passed away on February 15, 2003.   Julia is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lona Jo and Richard Gary Bowman of Dayton, Ohio; and a son and daughter-in-law Craig Oliver and Kay Gisinger Pierson of Arden, North Carolina; grandchildren Leslie Pierson Suerdick, Kathryn Bowman Paris, Lorin Oliver Pierson, Philip Laurence Pierson; great-grandchildren Ada Claire Paris, Katzya Grace Suerdick and Willa Paige Paris; and two nephews, John Oliver Priest of Naples, Florida and Joseph Leferenz Priest of Lewiston, New York. Julia's sister, Mary Ellen Oliver Priest of Lewiston, New York preceded her in passing on March 9, 2021.   Julia graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1945 and from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1949. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta social sorority and Kappa Delta Pi educational honorary.   Julia was a substitute teacher, a leader of Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, a docent at Adena State Memorial, co-historian of Walnut Street United Methodist Church, and a member of Walnut Street UMC since 1941. She was active in Junior Civic League, The Thrift Shop, Pump House Center for the Arts, Reach for Recovery, P.E.O., Autumn Woods Condominium Association, Ross County Historical Association, Chillicothe Country Club, and Jaycee Ladies Golf Association.   A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Walnut Street United Methodist Church, 16 S. Walnut Street, Chillicothe, Ohio. Everyone will be welcome to remain for refreshments at the church, where all will be invited tell some stories and reminisce about Julia. For those who knew her, they appreciate that she would want that to be a fun time.   In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Walnut Street United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 509 Chillicothe, Ohio 45601; or to the Ross County Historical Society 45 West Fifth Street, Chillicothe, Ohio 45601.
