Julia Ann (Kellhofer) Allen, 88, of Chillicothe, died peacefully on September 12, 2014 at Traditions of Chillicothe after an extended illness. She was born August 31, 1926 to the late Leo M. and Ada G. (Lawhorn) Kellhofer. On May 18, 1945, she married Gilbert Allen, her beloved husband of 52 years, who preceded her in death. She is survived by their four children and their spouses, Dr. Judy (Ned) Maxson, Pam Allen, Jan (Curt Steiner) Allen, and Steve (Jodi) Allen, and Mary Duafala whom she loved like a daughter; grandchildren Victor (Brittany) Maxson, Michael Steiner, Kevin (Amanda) Allen, Patrick Allen, Stephanie (Gene Fowler) Allen, Jason (Amber Reynolds) Dement and Justin (Katie) Dement; and great grandchildren Ashley (Nathan Lambert) Maxson, Josh Maxson, Garrett Allen, Hayden Dement and Hudson Dement; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was also preceded in death by her siblings Geraldine Harker, Duena Ames, Betty Trainer, and Mark Kellhofer. Julia was a graduate of St. Mary High School in Chillicothe, and a member of St. Mary parish. She devoted her life to her husband and children and was key to the success of the family business, Allen's Pharmacy. Julia created the most fun Christmas's, Easter's and birthdays, as well as a loving, comfortable, stimulating home every day for her family. An avid bowler, Julia was a fierce competitor on the lanes. And along with husband Gilbert, she was a formidable bridge player. Physically fit before it had such cachet, she loved biking and walking and at times incorporated yoga and weight training into her routine. After years of working night and day in the business and taking care of the family, Julia and Gilbert enjoyed traveling and exploring the world. She epitomized the values of loyalty, love and sacrifice – always the last to sit down to dinner, or to rest or go to bed. She was fearless in a myriad of ways. Her children and extended family adored her and relied on her for her ever-present, unwavering support, wisdom about life, beautiful laugh and grit and determination. Husband Gilbert was crazy about and devoted to her. His favorite thing was to be with his Julia. She was the light of his days. Together, they built a life, a family, a business and a wide circle of committed and loving friends. She will be greatly missed. The Allen family will welcome friends and family at the Haller Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 17th from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, with a brief remembrance and eulogy of Julia at noon, at Haller's. This remembrance will be followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church at 1 pm, and a graveside service at Greenlawn Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the charity of your choice.
