Judith Kay Hoops, 82, of Chillicothe, passed away early Monday morning, July 29, 2024 at her home, following an extended illness.
She was born June 9, 1942 in Jackson, Ohio, daughter of the late Edwin and Lillian (Hill) Hess. In 1964, Judy married her hometown boyfriend, Troy W. Hoops. They went on to move to the Chillicothe area and spent 44 wonderful years of marriage together before his passing on March 5, 2008.
Surviving are their two sons and daughters-in-law, Brent (Ashley) Hoops, and Eric (Angie) Hoops; grandchildren, Rain, Lyric, and Brennan Hoops; bonus grandchildren, Alexander Umphries, and Marissa Skaggs; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Cindy (Andy) Townsend, and Sylvia (Rand) Seibold; as well as numerous other extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, David Hess, and her beloved best friend, Elizabeth Stanford.
Judy was a well-known English teacher for Unioto High School, where she dedicated more than 32 years of her career before retiring in 1999. During her time there, she became one of the founding members of the Unioto Soccer Boosters, taking great pride in their ability to support the students in the athletic department. She was also an active member in the American Legion Post 62 Ladies Auxiliary, serving as an officer and devoting much her free time to the organization. She also enjoyed going golfing and the occasional game of tennis.
The American Legion Post 62 Ladies Auxiliary will hold a special service for family and friends at 4:00pm on Friday, August 2, 2024 at the Haller Funeral Home to honor Judy's 20+ years of volunteer service. Visitation will be held immediately following the service until 7:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Good Samaritan Food Bank in Chillicothe in her memory.
