This Earthly life ended for Joyce Cunningham Peters on September 29, 2021 at her daughter's home, surrounded by the family she loved dearly.
The oldest of three children to parents Robert Paul and Opal Bernice (Thomas) Cunningham, Joyce was born on February 18, 1935 in Chillicothe, Ohio. They predeceased her.
In July 1980, Joyce and Glenn E. Haubeil pledged their mutual love and lifetime companionship to one another. Glenn predeceased Joyce in December, 2009.
Left behind to cherish fond and loving memories are children and grandchildren, Debra Lynn (David) Graham and her children, Heather (Companion Billy Alexander) Houser, Marcie (Jamie) Nash, Krista (Companion Terry Wilt) Shiltz, and Amber (Zachary) Fitzgerald; daughter-in-law Jamie Ward Peters and children, Shane Peters, Steffie (Joel) Eversole, and Stacie (Shawn) Porter; and daughter, Cindy (Scott) Benner and her son Brent (Brandy) Peters. Joyce leaves behind numerous beautiful great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, all who added much joy and happiness to her life. Also surviving is a sister, Marilyn (Louis) Meyer; nephews Ronald, Gregory, and David Bruce, and their families. Those preceding Joyce in death, along with her parents, is her son, Steven Lee Peters; a brother, Richard Paul and his wife, Florence Merritt Cunningham; grandson, Daniel Lee Seymour, Jr.; great-grandson, Blake Alexander; great-granddaughter, Morgan Shiltz; two nephews, Robert and Randall Cunningham; A special aunt and uncle, Paul and Ruth Thomas McCutcheon, to whom Joyce was a caregiver; and Gerald E. Peters, ex-husband and father of Joyce's children.
Joyce was a graduate of Chillicothe High School, class of 1953, and had attended Ohio University-Chillicothe. She was a charter member of the Chillicothe Order of Rainbow for Girls, having attained her majority degree in 1954. Additionally, Joyce held membership in the Eagles Auxiliary #600 at Chillicothe, where she served as Auxiliary President, Past President, Secretary and Auxiliary Mother. She was also a member of the AMVETS Post 104 Auxiliary.
Joyce was formerly employed as Office Manager at Pepsi Cola Bottling Company; Manager of the Ohio University Bookstore in Chillicothe from its inception in 1969 until its closing in 1974; and Secretary and Accountant at Grimes Implement and Equipment Company. In January 2001, she retired from the Chillicothe Veterans Administration Medical Center and became a member of Chillicothe Chapter 315 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, having served as Vice President, President and Secretary.
From early childhood throughout her life, Joyce found time for fun, laughter and sharing herself with family and friends. She was happiest when she was sharing with family, caring for others, and helping to make people happy. She also enjoyed working in crafts, and at her computer researching family history. Joyce thoroughly anticipated the renewing of friendships and socialization at the monthly luncheon with her Chillicothe High School Classmates of 1953.
There will be a fellowship of family and friends on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 from 11:00am-1:00pm at Haller Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow immediately at 1:00pm with Joyce's grandson-in-law, Jamie Nash officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Joyce's memory to the Hospice of Adena Health System, 2077 Western Avenue, Chillicothe, OH 45601.
