Joshua Ely, 40, of Chillicothe, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 19, 2024. Joshua is survived by his daughters who he loved more than anything, Alexus (Lexi) Ely, a senior at Wright State University, and Kendra Ely, a Junior at Whiteoak High School, along with his mother, Barbara (Peters) Ely of Ross County and his father, Eric Ely of Washington Court House and his stepmother Sharon Ely. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Erika (Jason) Mullins, his stepbrother, Derek Young of McCordsville, Indiana, and his paternal grandfather, Ivan Ely, and his maternal grandfather, Kenneth Peters, of Ross County along with many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Josh was a kind, loving father and was noted for being willing to help anyone in need, even if it meant going without himself. He graduated from Southeastern High School after spending his formative school years at Greenfield McClain and Huber Heights City Schools. After graduating high school he attended Southeastern Business College, graduating with an associate degree in Information Technology.
Josh was an adventure lover and bicycle enthusiast. He loved being outdoors and struggled being in the house for any extended time. He spent the last two decades of his short life fighting the demons that face many in the world today. At the same time, he battled injustice when he saw it and sometimes found it difficult to overcome the forces he saw as negative in the community and within himself. Josh would not want flowers or tears over his passing. He would have preferred people find a way to help those in need and those who struggle with mental health issues.
