US Army SSgt Joshua S. Gire, 28, who was based in Germany, formerly of Chillicothe, died March 22, 2011, while serving his country, in Afghanistan. He was born September 22, 1982 to Paul William Gire Jr., of Chillicothe, and Peggy Shoemaker Hunt, of Greenfield, who survive. On July 15, 2005 he married Jacqueline R. Hayes, who survives. Also surviving are his two children, Nicholas J. and Riley J. Gire; three brothers, Michael Donahue and Paul Gire III, both of Chillicothe and Jonathan Hunt, of Greenfield; two sisters, Bethany Hunt, of Greenfield and Sandra Hunt Bourne, of Hillsboro; several aunts; uncles; and cousins; his mother-in-law, Ursula Hayes, of Germany and a sister-in-law, Janine Hayes, of Germany. He will return home, Saturday, April 9, 2011 at approximately 12:00 to 12:30 pm. He will be escorted into town via Bridge St. to Main St. to Western Ave., arriving at Haller's around 12:30 or 12:45. There are no services at that time, however the community is invited to join those along the procession route. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm, Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Huntington High School. Military graveside services will be held 3:00 pm, April 15, 2011 in Arlington National Cemetery. Friends may call 10-1 Tuesday at the high school. Arrangements are under the direction of the Haller Funeral Home.
