Josephine S. "Jo" Collins, 89, of Chillicothe, died Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at Traditions of Chillicothe, following a period of declining health. She was born July 16, 1923 in Lexington, NC to the late Benjamin C. and Bessie E. Sherrill Crawford. On November 23, 1950 she married the late Rex A. Collins, who died April 4, 2007. Survivors include a brother, Ben Crawford, of Lewisville, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Chloe Underwood (her identical twin) and Marie "Sis" Jordan; and a brother, Bill Crawford. Jo and her husband Rex lived and traveled all over the world while he was employed by Goodyear Tire. They visited every state in the US including Hawaii and Alaska, and most of Canada. While living in Brussels, Belgium they continued their travels to most of the European countries around the Mediterranean, including Egypt, Spain, Russian, Turkey and many others too numerous to mention. Jo lived a full and wonderful life and will be missed not only by her surviving family members but also by her friends in Chillicothe. Beneath a somewhat "matter-of-fact" exterior, Jo had a very kind and generous spirit. She loved pink lipstick, red nail polish, dancing and dessert. Although she had no pets of her own, she loved animals and was concerned for their welfare. She dedicated many years of her life to working with the Salvation Army and was awarded the Honorary Life Time Auxiliary Board Member in 2012. She enjoyed supporting and spending time at the Chillicothe Country Club. She often said, "I don't know what I would do without them" when speaking of Dorcie and Bill Jones. They have been tireless in their devotion to Jo over the past several years. Also, a special thanks to the wonderful caretakers at Traditions of Chillicothe for the kindness and compassion they extended to Jo during her stay there. A celebration of her life will be held 1:00 pm Friday at the Haller Funeral Home, Pastor Roger Webb officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at Haller's. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 171 E. 4th St., Chillicothe or the Ross Co. Humane Society, 2308 Lick Run Road, Chillicothe, OH 45601.
