Johnnie Lee Penrod, 73, of Chillicothe, passed away on Wednesday afternoon at 2:35pm, December 18, 2019, at the Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

He was born July 20, 1946 in Chillicothe, Ohio to the late Floyd and Mary Jane (Long) Penrod. On June 13, 1980, he married Teresa Dunlap, and together they shared 39 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, John (Theresa) Penrod, Eric Penrod, Shelly Penrod, and Gina (Shane) Sims; eight grandchildren, Chase (Courtney) Chaney, Colt (Britany) Chaney, Colin Barrows, Payton Penrod, Erica Penrod, J.T. Penrod, Faith (Allen) Wallin, and Damian Sims; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pam Penrod, and Sue (Marty Gragg) Hamlin; a brother, Marvin (Lori) Penrod; a brother-in-law, David (Sandra) Dunlap; former special neighbors, Doug and Tanny Rinehart; as well as numerous extended family members and good friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Danny (Julie) Penrod.

Johnnie was a graduate of Huntington High School. He went on to work as an Installation Engineer with ITG until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Ross County Bow Hunter Association, the Ross County Conservation League, the Loyal Order of the Moose, the Leesburg Masonic Lodge #78, and a life member of the North American Hunting Club. In his free time, Johnnie could be found outside going hunting, fishing, golfing, riding ATV's, or participating in competition bow hunting. He also never met a stranger and could be found spending time with his garage buddies drinking an occasional beer.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Arnouk and the entire staff at the Adena Regional Medical Center for all of their love and care during his stay. They would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Colopy and his assistant Leann for all of their support throughout his illness.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation services will be performed under the direction of Haller Funeral Home. A celebration of life service has been planned for 12:00pm on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at the Ross County Conservation League.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Johnnie's honor to the Ross County Humane Society or to a local charity of the donor's choice.
