John P. Pinnix, 70, of Chillicothe, died Wednesday evening, July 28, 2010, in his home following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 28, 1940, in Chillicothe to the late James David and Bernadine Pabst Pinnix. On June 3, 2010, he married the former Suzanne Lawhorn Smith, who survives. Also surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law Becky (Mitch) Salyers, Chillicothe; Debbie (Lee) Graves, Ashville; son and daughter-in-law John (Heather) Pinnix, Kettering, OH; grandchildren: Courtney, Megan and Cody Salyers; Alex, Colin and Logan Graves; and Jack and Aidan Pinnix; great-grandchildren Drake and Chloe Dennis; 5 step-children; 5 step-grandchildren, including Chelsea Smith, who lived with John; brothers and sisters Patty Summers, Columbus; Carolyn Recobs, Catherine Nixon, Jamie (Bonnie) Pinnix, Nick (Ruth) Pinnix, all of Chillicothe; and Barb (Jerry) Sherwood, Kingston; and his faithful canine companion, "Stuart." John retired from the Mead Corporation in 2002 where he worked in the maintenance department as a pipefitter and was a member of the Pipefitters Local 988. He was also a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, Council 1071. John was proud of his two Thunderbirds he owned and he enjoyed classic car shows. He also enjoyed golfing. John's trademark was probably being a member of the High Wheel Bicycle Club and participated in the annual Halloween Parade with his family riding their High Wheels. Due to renovations of St. Peter Church, Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00am, Saturday July 31, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Rev. William Hahn, Celebrant. Burial will follow at the convenience of the family in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call Friday (today) from 5-8pm at Haller Funeral Home, where a wake service will be held at 8pm.
