John Ortman

John R. Ortman, 82, passed from this life shortly after midnight on Monday, June 10, 2013, following a brief illness. John was born in Ross Co. on February 24, 1931 to the late Claude S. and Christine Haubeil Ortman. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Russell E. Ortman; a sister, Jean A. Cottrill; a sister-in-law, Patricia Ortman; a nephew, Douglas M. Ortman; and a niece, Carolyn Ortman Brown. He is survived by nephews and nieces, including Charlie, Tom, Gail, Craig, Wayne, Susan, Becky, Dan and Jeff, and a brother-in-law, Kenneth R. Cottrill. John was a York Rite mason and an avid model train collector. John was a US Army veteran. He worked at Mead Research in Chillicothe and the atomic plant in Piketon. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the following for their kindness and caring grace: Dr. Jerry Kunz, Heartland of Chillicothe, the Chillicothe Fire Department-Station 4, and the doctors and nurses at the Adena ER. Private graveside services in Mt. Carmel Cemetery and a family memorial service will be held at a later date, under the direction of the Haller Funeral Home. Calling hours will not be observed.
