John O'Connor

John D. O'Connor, Sr., passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. He was born April 12, 1943 in St. Louis, IL.   On October 4, 1969 he married the former Kay Thomas O'Connor, who survives.  Also surving are sons, John (Christy) O'Connor, Jr., and Matthew (Lindsey) O'Connor; grandsons, Liam O'Connor, Dexter O'Connor, and Noah Adams; a brother-in-law, David Thomas, of Dayton; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. John was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Virginia Turley O'Connor; his two brothers, Donald O'Connor and Robert O'Connor; and a nephew, Donnie O'Connor.   He was a graduate of Rosiclare High School in Rosiclare, IL, and Ohio University in Athens, OH with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering. His career included working for Navistar (formerly International Harvester), FL Aerospace, Ford Motor Co., and later as a Consultant in Manufacturing. John was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Illinois, a member of the Walnut Street United Methodist Church, and an active member and past president of the Chillicothe Rotary Club. He served on the board of the Chillicothe Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Adena Patient Advocacy Board. He enjoyed cooking, grilling out, playing golf, watching college football, and spending time with his family and friends.   The family extends a special than you to the Heartland Hospice staff and nurses for their kindness and excellent care given to John.   A memorial service will be held at Walnut Street United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 2:00pm.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Walnut Street United Methodist Church, 16 S. Walnut St., Chillicothe, OH 45601 or to Heartland Hospice, 116 Morris Rd, Suite C, Circleville, OH 43113.
