May 2, 1950 — April 3, 2022

John E. Norton, Sr., of South Salem, died at 4:16pm at his residence following a brief illness.   He was born May 2, 1950, in Longmont, CO, to the late Frank E. and Beulah F. (Welker) Norton.  On May 11, 1974, he married the former Brenda K. Bush, who survives.    Also surviving are their children: Paul (Joy) Norton, of Tuscaloosa, AL, Amanda Norton, of Milton, FL, Benjamin (Rachel) Norton and Joy (Eric) Gillum, all of South Salem, Timothy (Chelsea) Norton, Chillicothe; 24 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; a sister Eunice Gagnon, of Cape Coral, FL; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents; and 2 sons: John "Jay" Norton, Jr., and Matthew Norton.   John served in the US Air Force from 1970 until being honorably discharged in 1974.  He then entered the US Army in 1977, from which he retired a Staff Sergeant in 1993.  He was a member of Jefferson Ave. CCCU.  He loved to sing and play banjo in church and at home with his wife and children. He pastored several small churches and started a Christian school. He taught a Bible study in South Korea while stationed there. As a result of that study, a church was born in Pusan, South Korea. He has preached there via Skype. The pastor and his wife are still dear friends and have kept in touch.   A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00pm, Friday, April 8, at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory.
