John Mccormick

February 1, 1946 — March 28, 2009

On March 28, 2009, John passed peacefully from this life following a courageous, 19-year battle with a brain tumor. John believed that God's grace and mercy extended his life years beyond the expectations of his physicians, and it was his desire that other cancer patients know his story so they could have hope. "Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up." James 5:14-15. Born February 1, 1946, in Gallipolis, Ohio, John grew up in Richmond Dale and lived most of his life in Chillicothe. He is a 1964 graduate of Southeastern High School and worked as a machinist until his retirement in 2001. He is predeceased by his parents, Gardner and Irene (Luellen) McCormick. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife of 15 years, Debbie (Sullivan-Throckmorton) McCormick of Warren, Indiana; sons Matthew McCormick, Michigan, and Andrew McCormick, New Zealand; step-son Larry Throckmorton, his wife Laura and sons Trevor and Adam of Mt Sterling, Ohio; brother Charles McCormick and his wife Marjorie of Plymouth, Indiana; brother James McCormick and his wife Linda, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; brother-in-law Keith Sullivan and his wife Vickie, of Chillicothe, Ohio; and father-in-law Joseph Sullivan of Frankfort, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2009, at Church Triumphant, 4496 State Route 180, near Hallsville. Friends may call one hour prior. Burial will follow at Little Mound Cemetery in Richmond Dale. Arrangements are under the direction of Haller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the giver's choice or the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, 5910 Homestead Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46814. The family wishes to thank the hospice staff for the professional, compassionate care provided to John during the final weeks of his life. John's family would also like to thank the many friends and extended family members who sent love, cards, prayers, and hope during this difficult time.
