John Albert Lawhorn Sr., 80, of Chillicothe, died 11:53 am, Thursday, October 4, 2018 at his residence, following an extended illness.
He was born January 29, 1938 in Chillicothe to the late Herbert and Caroline Schrader. On October 3, 1959 he married Dessie Mae Jones, who survives. The two called each other, and were known by all as Mother & Father. Also surviving are four children, John (Teresa) Lawhorn, Jr., Chillicothe, Sherri (Gary) Hoffman, Groveport, Mary (Stan) Skaggs, and Suellen (John) Gillum, both of Chillicothe; Erica (Jeff) Davis, Chillicothe, whom he raised; 13 grandchildren, Amanda, John, Erica, Dustin, Jared, Andrea, Jason, Robin, Robert, Emily, Justin, Jordan, Bubba "Ugly"; 22 great-grandchildren, and one on the way; and two sisters, Jeanette Hill and Beverly Curtis, both of Chillicothe. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Lawhorn; and a sister, Helena Brown.
Mr. Lawhorn retired from Chilpaco, after 32 years, as a foreman, but was probably best known as the "BTV Man." He was a former EMT-Advanced, serving with the Franklin Twp. Fire Department and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call 2-5 pm Sunday at Haller's. Memorial contributions may be made to Adena Hospice, 9 S. Paint St., Chillicothe, OH 45601.
