John Gisvold, a beloved resident of Chillicothe, Ohio, went into the presence of his Lord and Savior Christ Jesus on Wednesday, February 25th, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on Thursday, October 20th, 1955, John lived a full and vibrant life, deeply rooted in the community he loved.
John was a proud graduate of the Chillicothe High School Class of 1973. Throughout his career, he brought dedication and leadership as the manager of the Wholesale House, where he formed lifelong friendships and impacted the lives of many.
A deeply spiritual man, John was actively involved in both the Bible Baptist Church and Landmark Christian Church, strengthening his faith and forming close bonds with his brothers and sisters in Christ, who lovingly called him "Big John."
His passions were as varied as they were vibrant. John delighted in antiquing, losing himself in the stories of the past. He was known for his beautiful yardwork and held a soft spot for old cars. His daughter Trisha was a constant companion during trips to the Columbus Zoo or leisurely walks in the park. John enjoyed relaxing in front of the TV, watching "Gunsmoke" and old westerns, exploring his family's history through genealogy, and spending time with his beloved dogs, Gretchen and Daisy. A creative soul, he found joy in repurposing old shovels into canes, showcasing his knack for seeing new life in old things.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Merlin Gisvold and Beulah Jean Gisvold, whom he dearly missed. He is survived by his loving daughter, Trisha Gisvold, numerous cousins, and a host of dear friends, including many cherished brothers and sisters in Christ and the spirited Breakfast Club at McDonald's.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to his dear friend, Sheriff George Lavender, as well as Dr. Seidensticker, Adena Hospice, and Dr. Juanito Saville, for their support and care.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 2nd, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Haller Funeral Home & Crematory in Chillicothe, OH. A funeral service celebrating John's life will begin at 1:00 pm followed by burial at Floral Hill Memorial Gardens.
John Gisvold will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the unwavering love for those around him. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
