John Cottrill

John W. Cottrill, 83, of Chillicothe, went to be with the Lord at 12:26pm Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at his home following a brief illness. He was born February 5, 1926, in Ross Co. to the late Homer and Cecil May Woodruff Cottrill. On June 12, 1945, he married the former Loretta Maxine Annon, who preceded him in death on March 26, 2003. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law Janice D. (Doug) Temple; son and daughter-in-law Michael L. (Beverly K.) Cottrill, all of Chillicothe; grandchildren Marshall (Erin) Temple, Columbus; Kristie Lea Temple, Chillicothe; Patricia (Travis) Guseman, Columbus; great-grandchildren Larry Temple, currently in the Navy stationed in Norfolk, VA; Miranda Temple and Dakota Rinehart, both of Chillicothe; brother and sister-in-law Herbert (Sharon) Cottrill, Ashland, OH; a sister, Mary, in Phoenix, AZ; brother-in-law Don Snyder; many nieces and nephews; and many close friends including Mary and the late David White, of Cincinnati and their children Tani, Faye and Linda; Shirley and Miles Burns, Justine Schinkle, Alice Hines, Eugene Vinings and Jerry and Bev Powers, all of Chillicothe. He was predeceased by a sister, Ethel; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Alfred & Alice Coonrod; Richard & Helen Annon; and Glenn & Esther Sowers. John worked as a switchman for the B & O Railroad and retired as a Building Manager from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center after 35 years of service. He served his country in the US Navy as a Seaman Second Class during WWII. He was a member of the Church of Christ and Christian Union, the Buckeye State Sheriff Assoc., and a former EMT and volunteer Firefighter with Scioto Twp. Funeral services will be held at 10am Saturday, September 12, in the Haller Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Norman officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call Friday from 6-8pm at Haller Funeral Home.
