John Cooke

December 8, 1942 — April 29, 2024

John Joseph Cooke (81), of Chillicothe, passed away on April 29, 2024 at the Adena Regional Medical Center.



He was born December 8, 1942, in Chillicothe, Ohio, the son of the late John Henry and Muriel Hattie Cooke.



John married Marlene Pairan Cooke on February 6, 1964.  John and Marlene just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.



He is survived by his wife; children: Todd Alan (Margo) Cooke, of Jacksonville, FL, Alicia Marie Kelly, of Columbus, OH, Lacinda "Cindy" Sue (James) Hawthorne, of Chillicothe, John Jay (Kristin) Cooke, of Lexington, KY; siblings: Richard (Lee) Cooke, Mary (Mike) Smith, and Teresa (Al) Gerzen. He was the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by granddaughter Kayla Hope Kelly and sister Barbara (Richard) Smith.



He was a 1961 graduate of Catholic Central. He retired as the Area Process Manager, in the utilities department, after 39 years of commitment at the Mead Corporation. He was a lifetime member of the Southern Ohio Beagle Club and led the Club as President for several years. He loved his rabbit and bird dogs and was known in the Beagle Club community as the owner of 'Tucker-T- Beagles'. He raised, trained, competed, and obtained the elite AKC Field Champion status with 3 different Beagle dogs. He loved hunting, fishing, and riding his tractor on his farm.



John was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Saturday, May 4, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Rev. Frank Brown, Celebrant.  Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery.  Public visitation will not be observed.

The family would like to thank Dr. Seidensticker and the Adena Hospice staff for their dedication, compassion, guidance, and support. Also, the staff on 2A of the Adena Regional Medical Center was a blessing and ensured that John was cared for and always comfortable.
