John A. Brown, 76, died at 10:40am October 5, 2016, at Riverside Methodist Hospital following an extended illness. He was born February 20, 1940, in Chillicothe to John C. and Helen Lloyd Brown. On August 26, 1960, he married the former Wendy D. Alexander for 56 years, who survives. Also surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law John W. (Dana) Brown, San Rafael, CA, Michael A. (Teresita Rodriguez) Brown, Corte Madera, CA; his daughter Ryan Rhoads, Bourneville; his mother, Helen Hall, Pasadena, CA; his sister and brother-in-law Emma Jane (Jess) Sunday, Rancho Cucamonga, CA; grandchildren: John R. and Kailey Brown, both of San Rafael, CA, Parker Brown, Corte Madera, CA, Kayla and Victoria Rhoads, both of Bainbridge; and many friends including Matt Adams, Michael Ortiz and Larry Taylor. John also really appreciated his local business friendships with Billy Bob Branscomb, Bob Barrett and Scott Baker. He was predeceased by his father; his father-in-law Wendell Alexander, and his mother-in-law Jean Ward While John was born in Chillicothe, he grew up in Southern California and graduated from Pasadena High School in 1958. He then earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California, was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity and remained a proud USC alum and fan. John and Wendy returned to Bainbridge 25 years ago where they owned and operated Paint Valley Farms and also owned and operated Valley Vista Golf Course in Bainbridge for the last 19 years. John was a member of Bainbridge United Methodist Church where he was very active and taught Sunday School. He was a 28 year member of the Pacific Stock Exchange, served on their Board of Governors and was a primary force in starting the options trading floor in San Francisco. He was a member of the Sunset Club, where he built many good friendships. He served on the Board of Directors for the Adena Health Foundation and the Ross Co. Community Action. John was also an avid sportsman. He enjoyed fishing trips with his buddies, especially to Alaska, British Columbia and the High Sierras. He remained an avid USC fan and was an L.A. Dodgers baseball fan. He loved baseball and especially enjoyed coaching 20 years of little league and senior league teams in both California and Paint Valley. He also was a car enthusiast, loved to play golf when he could and thoroughly enjoyed his life on the farm. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, October 9, at the Bainbridge UMC, with Pastor Matthew Brookes officiating. Burial will follow in Twin Twp. Cemetery. Friends may attend a visitation, Saturday from 2-6pm at his church.
