John R. Bivens, 68, of Washington C.H., OH, died at 5:10pm April 28, 2016, at the Kobacker House, Columbus, following an extended illness. He was born December 2, 1947, in Chillicothe, to the late Earnest "Pete" and Evelyn (Free) Bivens. John is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Jan (Michael) Baumann; nephew Scott Bivens; niece Samantha Rothe, all of Columbus; his companion Elizabeth Shoemaker, of Grove City; many good friends including Nancy and John Pottle and their family, all of Washington C.H.; a "brother" Tim Hart, of Grayson, KY; and many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his niece Suzanne Rothe. John was a graduate of Adena High School and worked as an electrician. He was very active with the Masonic Lodge and its bodies including: Frankfort F & AM, Lodge #309, Scottish Rite, the Washington County Shrine, Aladdin Shrine, Ross County Shrine, Provost, Royal Order of Jesters, Court 8 and Kentucky Colonels. He twice served as President of the Kentucky Colonels and was past president of the Washington County Shrine Club. He enjoyed working on various fund raisers for the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Tuesday, May 3, at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory with Chaplain David Dee Mowry officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Friends may call Monday from 5-7pm at Haller's where a Masonic Funeral and Jesters Rose Ceremony with begin at 7pm.
