Joel M. Gearing, 59, of Londonderry, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 28, 2019, following a 5 year battle with cancer.
He was born on September 18, 1959 in Chillicothe, Ohio to the late Vina Salyer Gearing and Lloyd (Loueda) Gearing. On August 8, 1980, he married Peggy (Elliott) Gearing, and together they shared over 38 years of marriage.
In addition to his father and wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jill (Scott) Howard, of Londonderry, and Jodi (Jim) Laird, of Chillicothe; four grandchildren, Zackary Howard, Kylie Howard, Samuel Laird, and Nathaniel Laird; a sister, Christa Lambert, of Londonderry; a brother, John (Valerie) Gearing, of Oak Hill; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Deanna (Larry) Vanover, of Laurelville, Bryon Elliott, of Londonderry, Paula (David) Dewitt, of Waverly, Trina Hughes, of Circleville, and Marla (Jerry) Harper, of Tarlton; his father-in-law, Paul Elliott, of Chillicothe; as well as all of his friends at the Eagles. In addition to his mother Vina, he was preceded in death by a brother, Randy Gearing, his mother-in-law, Charlotte Elliott, and a brother-in-law, Allen Lambert.
Joel began working as a correctional officer at CCI in 2004, where he stayed for 15 years until his illness prevented him. He was a dedicated member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 600 and the Moose Lodge 1626. In his free time he enjoyed playing the guitar, and traveling to South Carolina to go to the beach with his family.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no public calling hours or funeral. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
