Joe Brown

October 21, 1945 — July 8, 2024

Harold Joseph "Joe" Brown, affectionately known to many as "Dawg," 78, of Chillicothe, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family following a brief illness.

Joe was born October 21, 1945, in Chillicothe, to the late Harold F. and Bessie M. (Patterson) Brown.  Joe married the former Patricia "Patty" K. Moore on June 25, 1966, and they remained close through the end.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Aaron (Angie) Brown and Andrew (Wendy) Brown; grandchildren who he adored: Christian, Simon, Avery and Mason Brown, all of Chillicothe; siblings: Janet Ortman, Richard (Nancy) Brown, Jane (Dan) Lusher, Ruth Ann (Leonard) Pinkerton and Doug (Jackie) Brown, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many special friends which there are too many to list. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant brother Max G. Brown, brothers Philip and Tom Brown; and sisters-in-law Sandy, Mary and Carol Brown, and brother-in-law Bob Ortman.

Joe was a proud Veteran of the US Army, where he served as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Expert Rifle Badge, and was named  "Outstanding Graduate" in basic training where he obtained the highest PCPT score. He retired from the former Thompson/RCA Company in 2004, was a member of the BPOE, Elks, Lodge No. 52 and had coached the Rangers and Eagles little league baseball teams at Mary Lou Patton Park for 10 years.  Joe loved his family, all sports, and was a devoted Cleveland Browns fan.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 12, from 4-8pm at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory.  A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am Saturday at Tabernacle Baptist Church with his nephew, Pastor Chris Brown officiating.  Following cremation, military graveside services will be conducted in Soldiers Square at Greenlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity dear to Joe: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; https://www.stjude.org/give.html
