Joan Bookwalter Sepsi, 83, of Grove City, Ohio, passed peacefully from this life at 5:27 PM, May 10, 2025, at her home. She was the first of six children born in Clarksburg on March 1, 1942, to the late Sylvester Bookwalter and Melissa (Jobe, Bookwalter) Bennett. She was a loving and giving wife to Dr. Andrew (Andy) Sepsi and he survives along with her children: Robert (Deb) Ryan of Toledo, Ohio, and Colleen Susan Ryan of Arizona.
Joan was a doting, loving Grammy to Jane Elizabeth, Katherine Eva, and Margaret Rose Ryan and Michael Ryan. She is survived by two step-children: Tim (Jennifer) and Andrea Sepsi; sisters: Carolyn (Emmitt) Collins, Margaret Sue Crago, Marsha Jane (Todd) Metzger; brothers: Allen (Jeri) Bookwalter and Robert H. Bookwalter, several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Howard Ryan; her son William Randolph Ryan; her step-father, Charles W. Bennett; sister-in-law, Teresa Bookwalter; brother-in-law, Roger Crago, and nephew, Mahlon Riddick.
A graduate of the 1960 class of Clarksburg High School, she worked in her grandfather's drug store and continued working as a dental assistant and in secretarial/administrative assistant positions.
Joan loved music! During her lifetime she played the piano and organ for two churches in Clarksburg and in Martinsburg, West Virginia. She was a loving and caring mother who encouraged praying, telling the truth, working hard, being humble, brave, strong and kind to people.
Friends and family may call at the Clarksburg Methodist Church on May 19, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Obadiah Harris officiating. Burial will follow at the Browns Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to honor her through the American Cancer Society and Capital City Hospice.
