Joan Mcallister

Joan S. McAllister, 72, of Chillicothe, passed away peacefully with family at her side at 9:32am February 7, 2014, at Adena Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born November 16, 1941, in Ross County. On September 7, 1959, she married Harvey L. McAllister, who together enjoyed over 54 years of marriage. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Anne Montgomery and fiancée Victor Smith; son and daughter-in-law Bryan (Kathy) McAllister, all of Chillicothe; grandchildren: Leslie (Michael) Tackett, Waverly; Katlyn Montgomery, J.D. McAllister, and Bradley McAllister, all of Chillicothe; great-grandchildren: Carleigh Tackett, Kathryn McAllister, Carli McAllister and Mia Pittinger; a half-sister Edlyn (Hal) Hafer, Chillicothe; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Ed and Mabel (Bryan) Stinson; and a brother Emile "Sonnie" Weaver. Joan attended Catholic Central Schools, was a graduate of Chillicothe High School, Class of 1959, and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Joan worked as an accountant for the former Pike Chevrolet, Waverly, and as the office manager for McAllister Chevrolet, Chillicothe. She enjoyed being in the sunshine and being at the beach, swimming, reading, flower gardening and watching hummingbirds from her porch. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00am Tuesday, February 11, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Rev. Lawrence Hummer, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 6-8pm at Haller Funeral Home, where a wake service will be held at 8pm.
